Hi all, I run a family-owned minicab firm in New Malden (KB Radio Cars), and we’ve been on the road since 1991. Our cars cover huge mileage, so maintenance is a big part of our day.
A few things we’ve learned:
Brakes and tyres wear fastest. Stop-start traffic eats pads and discs, so we check them far more often than the manual suggests.
Regular oil changes beat waiting for the warning light. Short, repeated journeys are hard on engines.
Small noises matter. A drivers’ early report of a new rattle or vibration usually saves us a bigger bill later.
Keep records. A simple log per car makes patterns easy to spot.
I’d love to hear from others: how do you decide when a high-mileage car is worth repairing and when it’s time to replace it? Any trusted servicing intervals or tips for heavy daily use?
