Instructions to fit lights to 4 pin VW Polo 6N

 

Is your VW Polo 4 pin or 7 pin?

If your car has a control on the dashboard to adjust the level of the headlights, then you have 7 pin connectors, and therefore you should ignore this fitting guide. For those that don’t have this control then you have 4 pin connectors, and you should continue with these instructions.

 

1. Disconnect your battery first to avoid blowing any fuses.

 

2. Remove your existing headlights

 

3. Insert new headlights and tighten bolts.

 

4. Using the supplied wiring please follow the supplied wiring instructions (40-441-1154). Inserting the 7 pin female connectors into the back of the lights and connect the red wires to the battery connector.

 

5. Find a good place to secure the relays and fuses.

 

6. You will be left with one 7 pin male connector.

 

7. Cut the connector off with wire clippers, and strip the insulation approx. 7mm back from the wire ends.

 

8. Take your existing 4 pin headlight connector and cut the wires 100mm from the connector. And strip the insulation 7mm back from the wire ends.

 

9. Now you will be left with a 4 pin connector with wires coming out 100mm in length, and a clump of 11 wires coming from the lights.

 

10. Using the connector block please connect the wires as shown below:

 

Bil <-> til lysene

 

hvit <-> hvit

grå <-> grå

brun <-> brun

gul <-> gul

 

leftover: rød, blåd og svart

 

11. You will have some wires which are the same colour, connect these into the same slot, i.e. all the grey wires from the lights will go into the same hole on the connector block. Thus connecting all the grey wires from the lights to the grey wires from the car.

 

12. The red, blue and black wires are now dead. These wires were used to adjust the level of the headlights, but as your car doesn’t have this feature then they are void.

 

13. Connect the 4 pin connector to the car.

 

14. Reconnect the battery and test the lights. Check sidelights, full beam and dipped. If they do not work then you have the wiring incorrect and should consult a wiring diagram for your car.

 

15. If the lights all work, then use the supplied cable ties to secure the connector block to part of the car to prevent any movement.

 

For your reference:

Brown – Earth

Grey – Sidelights

White – Full beam

Yellow – Dipped

Blue/Red/Black – Motor (not needed)

forstod ikke helt denne instruksen da, men tenkte jeg skulle prøve med strømtyv på den ene kontakten til en av frontlyktene.

 

Var ikke helt med på punkt 13, hvor man skulle koble 4pins kontakten... jeg finner som sagt bare 2 kontakter og det er de to som går til hvert av lysene...

 

er jo 11 kabler fra fk kontakten, 3 (rød, blå, svart) som ikke brukes. så da er det 8 igjen (4 par, 4 kabler til hver lykt). På kontakten til den gamle lykten er det vel bare 4 kabler, så får bruke 2 strømtyver fra fk til den ene av bilens kabel

 

så 2 grå fk -> i grå bilkabel.
