The AutoWeek Take: Here's a graphic demonstration of one of General Motors' strategies to save the planet, the gasoline-electric hybrid GMC Graphyte Concept. The midsize sport/utility vehicle's hybrid powertrain uses a 5.3-liter V8 with cylinder deactivation tied to two electric motors built into the automatic transmission. GM estimates a 25 percent fuel savings with the powertrain, which is similar to the GM/DaimlerChrysler system that will first appear on full-size GM SUVs in 2007. Look for the more vertical grille styling of the Graphyte to appear on future GMCs as well.
